Citizen has announced a new GMT timepiece within its 880 mechanical collection.

The Citizen Series 8 GMT moves the accessibly priced Japanese watchmaker upmarket with a premium build and mechanical movement.

Presented in a 41 mm x 13.5 mm stainless steel case, the Series 8 GMT features an integrated stainless steel bracelet, with a sapphire crystal on the front, a clear caseback, and is rated water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters. The new Series 8 GMT is available in three iterations at launch. A black and blue “Batman” bezel with a black dial (Ref. NB6031-56E), a blue and red “Pepsi” bezel with a blue dial (Ref. NB6030-59L), and a limited edition gold-plated model with a brown and white bezel and textured gold dial (Ref. NB6032-53P) that’s reminiscent of the “Rootbeer” color scheme.

Citizen’s Series 8 GMT features a local jumping hour function that allows you to quickly set the primary (local) hour hand in one-hour jumps, without stopping the movement from keeping the time. An arrow tipped 24-hour GMT hand indicates home time, or whatever second-time zone you prefer to set it to.

The Japanese-made 4Hz automatic caliber 9054 drives hours, minutes, center seconds, date, and GMT functions, with a power reserve of up to 50 hours, and the ability to manually wind the mainspring. Though not what you might expect from Citizen, all three models come with a clear caseback, showing off the industrial finish of the mechanical movement, including a machine-made striped decoration on the winding rotor. The movement is anti-magnetic rated to 16,000 A/m and is adjusted and tested to be accurate to -10/+20 seconds per day when it leaves the factory.
