Citizen just announced a limited edition version of the Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer to commemorate the model’s 50th anniversary.

The 2023 Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer 50th Anniversary Edition is powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive solar-powered quartz movement and is available in a gold-tone stainless steel case that measures 45 mm x 15.3 mm.

Though this watch is not a faithful recreation of the past Citizen watch, it was inspired by a bullhead (top-mounted chronograph pushers) version of the Chrono Challenge watch from 1973 that was powered by a mechanical chronograph movement and nicknamed “Tsuno Chrono” by fans. This modern Tsuno Chrono represents 50 years since the name was first coined and is limited to 3,000 individually numbered pieces worldwide.

Each timepiece features a hand-assembled caliber E210 ECO-Drive solar-powered quartz movement (8-month power reserve), with a 1/5th of a second flyback chronograph function that can count up to 12-hour elapsed times and is accurate to -/+15 seconds per month. In addition to the time and chronograph functions, the watch has an alarm (with an on/off indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock)), power reserve indicator (at 9 o’clock), and date display (at 1:30). The crown at 12 o’clock sets the time and date, while the crown at 5 o’clock sets the alarm.

Citizen gave the Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer 50th Anniversary Edition (Ref. AV0072-01X) a sporty 1970s design theme using a combination of black, gold, white, and red — and fittingly, they paired it with a vintage-inspired brown leather strap with a deployant clasp. The case is water-resistant rated to a depth of 200 meters.

The retail price is $1,195.
