Project Z16 is the sixteenth model in Harry Winston’s sporty Project Z series, which dates back to 2004.

Since its inception, Project Z timepieces have been offered in Zalium, which is a zirconium-based alloy that’s proprietary to Harry Winston. “Zalium is a revolutionary alloy that is ultra-lightweight, incredibly resilient, and resistant to corrosion and scratches,” according to Harry Winston.

The Project Z16 is presented in a 42.2 mm x 11.27 mm which features Harry Winston’s signature crown guards, flat pushers, a stepped case design with intricate satin-brushed surfaces, and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters.

The dial has been openworked, displaying the hours, minutes, date, month, day, and retrograde seconds — and the components below that make the indications work. This is the first Project Z model to be equipped with a full calendar (date, day of week, month). Most notably, the seconds are displayed by a retrograde indicator located at 6 o’clock, which moves left to right, from 0-30, then instantly snaps back and starts over, repeatedly, creating a pleasant optical demonstration of the unique mechanics below.

Powering the hours and minutes, date, month, day, and retrograde seconds is automatic caliber HW3401 which measures beats at 4Hz, measures 32 mm x 5.2 mm, has 327 components, 34 jewels, and a power reserve of 65 hours. Visible through both the dial side, partially, and the open caseback, the movement is decorated with radiating anthracite Côtes de Genève, rhodium plating, and graining — and has an 18K white gold openworked rotor.

A hybrid two-tone alligator and rubber strap completes the sporty-luxurious aesthetic. The Harry Winston Project Z16 (Ref. OCEACC42ZZ001) retails for an estimated $25,000.
